AtkinsClarke are supporting a long-established, family‑owned logistics business with the appointment of a Head of Finance to play a pivotal role in the next phase of growth. This is a hands‑on, number one on‑site finance role, working closely with the Commercial Director and Managing Director as a true right‑hand partner. You will take ownership of the finance function, support decision‑making and help drive the business toward its ambitious growth plans. This is a role for someone who enjoys being close to the detail, thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to be part of a growing business.

Our client is a well‑established business with over 40 years of trading history and turnover of c£15m. The core operation is a logistics and transport business serving a diverse customer base, alongside additional operations across related and complementary sectors. As a family‑run organisation, the business operates with a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial culture where no two days are the same. With clear growth ambitions to reach £20m+ revenue over the coming years, the business is now looking to strengthen its finance function to support this journey.

As Head of Finance, you will take full ownership of the finance function, leading a small team while working closely with the Directors on both day‑to‑day operations and strategic planning. This is a broad, hands‑on role requiring someone who is comfortable getting into the detail while also stepping back to provide insight and direction.

  • Producing monthly management accounts and financial reporting
  • Leading budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management
  • Managing and developing a small finance team
  • Taking ownership of transactional processes and ensuring strong financial control
  • Supporting business decision‑making with clear financial insight
  • Driving improvements in processes, reporting and efficiency
  • Working closely with stakeholders across the business to understand performance
  • Supporting the continued growth and development of the wider group

Over time, the role is expected to broaden in scope across multiple areas of the business.

We're looking for a hands‑on, resilient and commercially aware finance professional who can operate effectively within a family‑run, fast‑moving environment.

  • Experience producing management accounts, budgets and forecasts
  • Previous experience managing or mentoring a small team
  • A proactive, "roll sleeves up" approach with strong attention to detail
  • The confidence to challenge, influence and stand your ground when needed
  • The ability to operate in a dynamic environment where priorities can shift quickly
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Experience within a family‑owned or owner‑managed business would be highly advantageous.

This role is as much about attitude and character as it is technical ability - we're looking for someone who wants to grow with the business and become a key part of its future.

A unique opportunity to join a growing, entrepreneurial business in a key leadership role:

  • Salary of up to £70,000 per annum
  • High level of ownership and autonomy
  • Daily exposure to the Directors and business decision‑making
  • Opportunity to grow with the business and expand the role over time
  • Supportive, close‑knit working environment

At AtkinsClarke, we embrace inclusivity and welcome applicants of all backgrounds, experiences, and abilities.
