Our client, a well-established and forward-thinking multi-disciplinary consultancy, is seeking a Principal Designer / CDM Consultant with a strong focus on fire and life safety to join its growing team. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of design risk management and fire safety, supporting complex and high-profile developments across the UK. You will act as Principal Designer under CDM Regulations 2015, with a particular emphasis on fire and life safety risk management throughout the design process. Working closely with fire engineers, architects, and multidisciplinary teams, you will ensure that fire risks are identified, assessed, and mitigated early in the design stages, supporting compliance with both CDM and Building Regulations. You will be involved in a wide range of projects, including high-rise residential, mixed-use developments, commercial schemes, and other complex buildings requiring a robust and coordinated approach to fire safety.
Key Responsibilities- Undertake the role of Principal Designer in accordance with CDM Regulations 2015
- Lead and coordinate design risk management with a focus on fire and life safety
- Work alongside fire engineers to ensure fire strategies are integrated effectively into the design process
- Advise clients on their duties under CDM and the Building Safety Act, particularly in relation to fire risk
- Review design information to ensure that fire risks are eliminated or reduced so far as reasonably practicable
- Support the development of Pre-Construction Information (PCI) and contribute to the Golden Thread of safety information
- Liaise with key stakeholders including design teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members
- Competitive salary (DOE) up to circa £90,000 for Associate level
- Performance-based bonus (up to 15%)
