Currently we have an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a 36-bed acute inpatient mental health service for men and women with enduring mental health problems in Exeter. You’ll work within an established MDT, providing high-quality clinical leadership while contributing to the ongoing strategic development of the service and wider hospital.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Act as Responsible Clinician for an acute adult inpatient ward
  • Lead clinical decision‑making and manage complex psychiatric cases
  • Formulate care plans and deliver evidence-based treatments and interventions
  • Participate in MDT meetings, ward reviews and CPA meetings
  • Support and supervise Associate Specialist and wider MDT colleagues
  • Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audits and ongoing service development

For this role, we’re looking for someone who has:

  • MRCPsych or recognised equivalent, approved by Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • CCT/CESR (or equivalent experience) in General Adult Psychiatry desirable
  • Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility)
  • Significant experience in acute inpatient or community adult mental health
  • Strong skills in risk assessment, risk management and independent clinical decision‑making

Candidates without CCT/CESR but with AC status and extensive experience in acute inpatient and working in senior medical/consultant type roles may be considered.
