Currently we have an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a long-standing and highly specialised mental health service in the South West, delivering secure care for men and women across a range of settings. This is a varied and rewarding role working across medium and low secure wards, including the potential to focus on Learning Disability if desired.
Salary: Up to £165k dependant on experience + £8,400 car allowance + £10,000 bonus
Position: Consultant Psychiatrist
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Setting: Medium and low secure mental health inpatient service and/or LD
Location: Somerset
Key responsibilities:
- Manage a secure inpatient caseload of 15–20 service users
- Undertake assessments, diagnoses, and oversee treatment plans
- Lead MDTs and guide on risk management and clinical decisions
- Chair CPA meetings and attend tribunal hearings
- Supervise and support junior medical colleagues
- Contribute to clinical governance and quality improvement
- Provide second-tier on-call (approx. 1 in 8, phone support only)
Requirements / qualifications:
- Full GMC registration and a licence to practice
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
- CCT in Forensic or General Psychiatry (with secure experience)
- Section 12(2) and AC approval
- Experience working in or with secure mental health services
