Purpose: Reporting to the VP, Valuation, this position will play a key role in Athene’s actuarial valuation team, with a primary focus on statutory valuation and reserving for life and annuity reinsurance business. The role will support quarterly financial reporting execution while also serving as a technical contributor on statutory reserving methodology, with particular emphasis on VM-20 and VM-22. The successful candidate will combine strong execution discipline with technical curiosity and sound actuarial judgment. This individual will help interpret evolving regulatory guidance, translate requirements into practical valuation approaches, and support implementation for Athene’s growing third-party reinsurance platform, with a particular focus on life insurance and deferred annuity business, including business originating from the APAC region.
Accountabilities:
- Produce, analyze, and review quarterly statutory valuation results, with a focus on life and annuity reserves.
- Serve as a key technical contributor on statutory reserving requirements under the NAIC Valuation Manual, including VM-20 and VM-22.
- Research and interpret evolving statutory and actuarial guidance, translating complex requirements into practical methodologies, model specifications, and reporting processes.
- Support valuation analysis for new, complex, and cross-border reinsurance transactions, especially third-party reinsurance opportunities.
- Interface with other Actuarial functions and provide new business support as required.
- Develop, execute, and review modeling processes, controls, and reconciliations to support accurate and timely reporting.
- Partner with other Actuarial functions, Finance, Risk, Investments, and other stakeholders to support reporting, transaction analysis, and business initiatives.
- Communicate valuation methodologies, results, and implications to senior management and regulatory audiences with clarity and precision.
- Provide thought leadership within the actuarial community by staying current on emerging industry practices and contributing to internal discussions on methodology and policy.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or any quantitative field and Associate qualification of a widely recognized actuarial body or significant progress towards a qualification.
- FSA, FCIA, FIA, or equivalent actuarial qualification preferred.
- 5+ years’ relevant experience including working in the life insurance industry.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite and any programming language.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage several projects.
- Demonstrated desire to take initiative and run with projects.
- Comfortable working in a flat structured organization and interacting with senior management.
- Ability to view “big picture”, understand broad corporate impacts, and focus on company objectives.
- Excellent oral and written English language skills.
