Purpose: Reporting to the VP, Pricing, this role is responsible for supporting the development and review of pricing and other analytical models and the management of active and prospective flow and reinsurance transactions.
Accountabilities:
- Take lead on main phases of a flow transaction process, from initial target identification through product design, pricing, contract drafting, closing and transitioning to rate setting.
- Create, or supervise the creation of, pricing models for each proposed transaction.
- Perform due diligence related to product design including identifying client goals and targets, analyzing experience data to set assumptions, and identifying risk exposures and mitigation.
- Contribute to the development of key inputs and assumptions within transaction diligence and pricing models.
- Lead the preparation of internal deal documents such as the Transaction Memorandum and pricing materials for the management approval process.
- Drive the documentation of internal controls and develop and implement policies and procedures to promote more rigorous transaction review; Support other process improvements which help to improve quality and effectiveness of flow deal deliverables.
- Manage projects with appropriate oversight, collaborate with other business units.
- Research and be able to summarise and explain actuarial concepts and regulations; Stay abreast of capital market and insurance industry activities and trends.
- Seek out and understand proposed and newly implemented actuarial guidelines, relevant accounting pronouncements, regulatory updates, and other key issues which could impact deal valuation.
- Work collaboratively with peers and manage or mentor less experienced staff.
- Perform peer reviews of work product created by others in the flow pricing department.
- Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Finance or related field and FSA or FIA actuarial designation.
- 7+ years of experience in the life insurance or reinsurance industry or investment banking background with significant experience in the financial services / insurance sector.
- Ideal candidate will have significant experience with asset-intensive insurance pricing and/or accounting/financial reporting/capital modeling, with mastery of international Solvency frameworks (Solvency II, ICS, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and manage several projects.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities.
- Understanding of statutory and GAAP accounting.
- Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, with the ability to embed good organisation and high levels of flexibility and auditability in large projects.
- Experience with actuarial systems, such as MG ALFA, Polysystems or GGY AXIS.
- Programming experience such as SAS, VBA, R, or Python.
