Athena Sports Group is expanding its technical team in support of its America's Cup and SailGP objectives. We are building an agile, creative and collaborative team to compete and win at the pinnacle of the sport of sailing. Our team values have a sharp focus on maximizing performance from our designs, while fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

You will own the design, delivery, and evolution of the team's IT and communications systems, supporting both on-water performance and shoreside operations. This is a hands-on role, operating in a high-pressure, time-critical race environment, with responsibility for IT strategy, reliability, and future development.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and develop effective on-water telemetry, data, and voice networks that will enable us to operate safely and at a high level of performance.
  • Own and administer the team's cloud environment, including security, connectivity, and availability.
  • Maintain reliable connectivity and security of multiple UK sites and overseas sailing bases.
  • Define and deliver the long-term IT strategy aligned with team and campaign goals.
  • Manage relationships with technology vendors, partners, and sponsors.
  • Plan, track, and control IT expenditure in line with agreed budgets.
  • Manage company hardware assets and replacement plan.
  • Mentor and develop junior members of the IT team.
Required skills/experience
  • Proven experience working with mobile and wireless data networks.
  • Strong background in cloud-first environments (architecture, operations, security).
  • Experience operating in high-pressure, time-critical environments.
  • Ability to diagnose issues quickly and minimise downtime.
  • Experience with race team voice and comms systems (e.g. Riedel).
  • Calm, pragmatic problem-solver with a strong delivery mindset.
Desired skills/experience
  • Experience in elite sport, motorsport, sailing, military communications, or similar performance-driven environments.
  • Comfortable working irregular hours around training blocks and racing schedules.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with performance, sailing, and engineering teams.
  • Background in enterprise networking, IPSEC VPN, BGP, SDWAN etc.
  • CCNA or equivalent industry qualification.
  • ITIL V4 foundation qualification or knowledge.
