We are currently recruiting for a Principal Clerk to perform simple routine repetitive clerical work at the RI Veterans Cemetery. This full-time position pays $17.99/hr and is located in Exeter, RI.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Answer phone, written, and in-person requests for information and advice from people, their representatives, agencies and others; follow up as needed.
  • Perform eligibility determinations for people applying for or receiving cemetery benefits.
  • Keep abreast of all services available to the cemetery.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a resource file.
  • Coordinate with field staff within the cemetery and arrange for services required by cemetery people.
  • Serve as an advocate for clients with various service provider agencies.
  • Assist with the completion of application forms.
  • Conduct interviews in the office and in the field.
  • Assist in the dissemination of printed and other materials.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual informational and statistical reports.
  • Investigate and document complaints.
  • Conduct activities throughout the state such as at information fairs, public meetings, and the processing of identification cards and eligibility screenings.
  • Work is carefully checked by supervisor both in process and in final form for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Working knowledge of business English.
  • Familiarity with standard office filing procedures.
  • Ability to make simple tabulating and arithmetical computations.
  • Ability to understand readily and carry out simple directions, both oral and written.
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible.
  • Highly motivated.

Education And Experience

  • Graduation from a senior high school or any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Working hours M-F, 8:00am-4:00pm.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
