The Senior Technician role will assist the Heads of Department and Technical Manager with the day‑to‑day running of the theatre from a technical perspective. You will assist with get‑ins, fit‑ups and get‑outs of new productions and visiting events, as well as with the maintenance and upkeep of the theatre. At times you will deputise for the heads of department for get‑ins and get‑outs of the selected area. There will also be opportunities to support other areas of operation, including stage and facilities. As a member of the Department, you will assist the Technical Manager in implementing, monitoring, and fostering a culture of workplace safety and compliance across the technical operations of the venue, and ensuring visiting productions, contractors and visitors comply with ATG policies and procedures. You will support the Chief LX, Stage Manager and Facilities Manager with the maintenance of the venue’s electrical/mechanical systems and equipment, and liaise with visiting productions regarding all electrical and sound requirements, providing the highest standards of customer experience for our guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Technical Manager in the safe and efficient get‑in, rigging and get‑out of any department required for a production.
- Ensure smooth operation of shows and undertake show‑related roles when required, delivering a high level of service to each performance.
- Attend relevant training courses as required.
- Support the Technical Management team with the management of casual crew, ensuring all casual staff are appropriately skilled.
- Support heads of department with rostering.
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures to minimise injury and accident risk.
- Understand and implement emergency procedures, leading back‑of‑house team members when acting as Duty Tech.
- Maintain house and touring equipment at the discretion of the Technical Management team.
- Carry out duties in line with all relevant risk assessments and method statements relating to the production and venue.
- Observe and operate within the UK Theatre / BECTU code of conduct agreement.
- Manage visiting contractors under the Contractor Management Policy and ensure all visitors operate safely, reporting issues as necessary.
- Complete regular inspections of electrical equipment and carry out PAT testing in line with health and safety requirements.
- Complete and submit incident, near‑miss and accident reports to the Technical Management and venue management team when they occur.
- Attend meetings as necessary to support the technical team, the venue, and ATG Entertainment.
- Work at other ATG venues as the business requires.
Qualifications
- Experience working in a professional theatre venue in a technical role.
- Strong experience in lighting and sound.
- Good knowledge of ETC desk and lighting systems.
- Knowledge of lighting and sound systems used in theatre.
- Working knowledge or current health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Problem‑solving skills and initiative.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to deliver a high level of customer service.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
