The Company
Our client designs and manufactures hydraulic and pneumatic components for the process industry. With eight UK locations supporting a wide range of companies across FMCG, Aerospace, Water, Automation, and Metals Manufacturing, the UK business now generates £40 million turnover. Having made a number of acquisitions, this company has been able to develop their bespoke engineering services over the last 10+ years. Now the business is aiming for 10% growth, and as such have been reviewing their internal capability. As a result, they are looking to recruit a Design Lead with immediate effect.
The Role
The role of Design Lead is a new position for the business, leading a team of 5 and coordinating the activity of the team around design projects. With around 70% hands-on design work, this role also provides the ideal step up into management. The Design Lead will be responsible for:
- Controlling the flow of design work into the design team, for projects ranging £5000 to £450,000 in value
- Qualifying new projects to approve design timescales and allocate to the appropriate member of the team
- Hands-on involvement in 3D Design on SolidWorks/Inventor
- Challenging standards of working and holding the team accountable to timescales
- Conducting management responsibilities such as appraisals and HR issues

- Experience in 3D design of hydraulic/fluid systems
- Either experience or ambition to lead a team
- Strong decision-making skills and ability to prioritise
- Experience dealing directly with customers for requirement gathering and costing
