Service & Commissioning Engineer

Rate: Β£375-Β£400 Per day

Location: Leicestershire
Hours: 0800 – 1700 (Flexible)

Contract Length: 3 Months Initially with a view to being extended

Please note – All commissioning contracts may involve 1–2 weeks of travel abroad

The contractor

In this role, flexibility is essential. Approximately 80% of your time will be spent in the office, focusing on commissioning and development activities (FAT). The remaining time may involve travel to customer sites for a few days at a time (SAT). On-site work could include tasks such as upgrades, sensor repairs, code adjustments, or warranty support.

You should be confident in all aspects of PLC programming, with strong knowledge of sensors, pneumatics, robotics, and the principles of vision systems. The machinery you\’ll work with can range from small bending equipment to fully integrated production lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commissioning & developing special purpose automated machinery & systems
  • Fault finding of control and safety systems at customer sites
  • Developing machine processes to achieve performance requirements
  • Programming of various robots, including 6-axis, SCARA & Delta
  • On-site support and servicing of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Modifications and enhancements to existing systems
  • Provide customer training on delivered machines
  • To communicate effectively to customers, suppliers and team members

Key Tasks

  • To develop and commission machines and machine control systems
  • Commissioning of machine control systems and development of machine processes, machine performance testing, Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance testing
  • Responsible for machine functionality
  • Responsible for testing to ensure machine electrical systems & safety systems comply with all relevant European and international standards
  • Operator training on machines on site and at customer site
  • Provide customer support that will include visits to customer\’s site throughout the UK and to assist with the installation, commissioning and troubleshooting when required.
  • Occasional oversees travel will be required
  • Working hours may vary depending on the requirement

Required Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate would be a multi-skilled engineer with a good mixture of hands-on skills, understanding of mechanical systems and be able to demonstrate a good level of competency with machine control systems.

  • Experience in an Automation systems or Machinery environment.
  • PLC coding/troubleshooting experience with one or more of the following equipment would be an advantage: Omron, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Beckhoff and B & R.
  • Experience of programming and integrating 6-axis, Scara or Delta robots into Automation systems would be an advantage.
  • Appropriate Electrical qualification combined with understanding of electrical systems, including commissioning and fault finding.
  • Understanding of Pneumatic circuits
  • Experience of interfacing to Injection Moulding Machines would be an advantage
  • Minimum 5 years\’ experience relating to automation machinery
  • Must be self-motivating with a β€˜can do\’ attitude
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal
  • Must be flexible and able to work away at short notice and work the hours required to complete the job
