The Opportunity

We're working with a rapidly growing, family-run business that's a leading name in specialist lifting equipment, with an impressive fleet of cranes and innovative plant equipment. With continued investment in new machinery, state-of-the-art facilities and employee development, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a company that genuinely looks after its engineers. You'll be working on everything from specialist mini cranes to advanced lifting machinery, with exposure to equipment that is often among the first of its kind in the UK and Europe. If you're a strong engineer with the right attitude, they'll provide the specialist training to get you up to speed.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Field Service Engineer, you'll be responsible for servicing, maintaining, inspecting and repairing a diverse range of specialist lifting equipment. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Attending customer sites across Midlands and Southern England to diagnose and repair equipment
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), servicing and safety inspections
  • Fault finding on mechanical and electrical systems
  • Working with engines, hydraulics, tracks, gearboxes, sensors and electrical control systems
  • Diagnosing faults involving relays, contactors, switches, emergency stops and associated components
  • Responding to breakdowns and working towards effective first-time fixes
  • Supporting workshop activities, equipment preparation and technical development when not in the field
  • Working independently while collaborating with a highly experienced engineering team

No two days will be the same, and you'll have the opportunity to develop your skills across a genuinely interesting range of machinery.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a practical, hands-on engineer who enjoys problem-solving and wants to develop their technical knowledge. You'll ideally have:

  • Experience servicing, maintaining or repairing mechanical equipment
  • A good understanding of diesel engines and mechanical systems
  • Basic electrical fault-finding ability, including reading schematics and diagnosing component faults
  • A proactive approach to breakdowns and technical challenges
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A willingness to learn new machinery and develop specialist skills

We'd love to hear from engineers with backgrounds in:

  • Plant Maintenance / Construction Equipment
  • Agricultural Machinery
  • HGV / Heavy Vehicle Maintenance
  • Access Platforms / Powered Access
  • Heavy Engineering / Industrial Machinery
  • Armed Forces / REME / Military Engineering

Experience with cranes, tracked equipment, hydraulics or lifting machinery would be advantageous, but isn't essential.

Training & Progression

This business takes engineering development seriously. You'll receive structured, hands-on training alongside experienced engineers, with progression into field-based responsibilities at a pace that suits your experience. Further development includes manufacturer-led technical training, accredited courses, and opportunities to work with new equipment and technology. It's a company with a proven history of promoting from within, making this a great opportunity for someone who wants to build a long-term career rather than just find their next job.

What's in It for You?

  • £40,000 – £45,000 basic salary, with potential for £50,000 for specialist experience
  • Realistic earnings of £50,000+ with overtime and allowances
  • Overtime after the applicable threshold
  • Door-to-door pay
  • 25 days' annual leave, including 3 days allocated to Christmas shutdown, plus bank holidays
  • Manufacturer training
  • Genuine career progression – several senior leaders started on the tools
  • Excellent work-life balance with flexibility around working hours
  • On-site perks
  • A supportive engineering team with excellent staff retention
