Based in Dagenham, £450 Day Rate Outside IR35, 6 Month Rolling Contract.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to deliver CAPEX projects from concept through to commissioning at our industrial site. Working as part of a collaborative engineering team, you will manage the full project lifecycle while overseeing contractors, ensuring technical excellence and maintaining the highest safety standards. This role will support the delivery of an annual £4–6 million CAPEX programme as part of a wider long-term investment strategy.

Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Project Engineer

  • Manage projects from concept, design and budgeting through to commissioning and handover.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate and manage contractors, including tendering and on-site performance.
  • Lead mechanical engineering activities, particularly pipework modifications, pumps and valves.
  • Ensure compliance with ATEX requirements, permit systems and safe working practices.
  • Review RAMS and oversee quality assurance, welding inspections and documentation.
  • Work closely with operations and stakeholders to deliver projects safely, on time and within budget.

About You

  • You will have a strong mechanical engineering background with experience delivering projects in industrial environments.
  • Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience managing CAPEX projects from start to finish.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial pipework systems, pumps and valves.
  • Experience working in oil & gas, COMAH, fuel storage, process manufacturing or similar heavy industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of ATEX regulations and hazardous area equipment selection.
  • Experience managing contractors and using project planning tools such as MS Project.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • Experience with instrumentation and control systems.
  • Familiarity with Primavera or other advanced planning software.
