Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Derbyshire Rate: £40 – £42 per hour (Ltd – Outside IR35) Contract: 3 – 6 month initial contract – likely to extend Immediate Start Our client is looking for an experienced professional to take a lead role in managing the full design process—from initial concept through to final delivery. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects within a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment. You'll use tools like CAD and advanced engineering software to validate calculations, support testing, and oversee project execution, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure quality, efficiency, and client satisfaction at every stage. What Our Client is Looking For: A hands-on background in fabrication and structural engineering Proficiency in engineering calculations – using Mathcad, Excel, and hand calculations Expertise in acoustics, airflow, and thermal systems Experience with both large and small companies, showcasing adaptability Strong ability in structural stress calculations and understanding of mechanical systems specifications Key Responsibilities: Interpret complex client specifications and develop concept mechanical designs using Inventor Perform and validate calculations for structural loadings, ducting, airflow, and offshore environmental forces (pitch, roll, heave) Lead engineering analysis for cost and weight reduction, and improve design for manufacture Liaise with multiple teams, supporting and reviewing engineering work Engage in and lead technical design reviews Requirements: Solid Mechanical Engineering background with a proven track record in heavy/large-scale structural fabrication Proficient in Mathcad and hand calculations Experience using Inventor or similar 3D modelling software e.g. Solidworks Strong grasp of acoustic, thermal, and airflow engineering principles Client-focused with excellent technical judgement and team collaboration skills Engineering qualification Benefits: Outside IR35 Immediate start Likelihood for long term contract I am looking to speak to talented Mechanical Design Engineers who are looking for a rewarding and highly challenging position.
