The Opportunity

Are you a mechanically or electrically biased Maintenance Engineer looking to join a growing manufacturing business with significant investment in new machinery and exciting plans for the future? We are recruiting for a Maintenance Engineer to join an established engineering team at a specialist manufacturing facility in Hoddesdon. The business manufactures high-performance components used in some of the world's most demanding environments, including offshore power, renewable energy, marine and industrial applications. With continued investment in the site, including £2 million recently spent on new production equipment, this is an excellent opportunity to join a business that is committed to modernising its facilities and developing its engineering function. You'll join a team of engineers maintaining a diverse range of specialist production machinery, with plenty of opportunity to develop your technical skills.

The Role

Working as part of a small, close-knit maintenance team, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving a wide range of manufacturing equipment. The role will involve a mixture of planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown support, with the long-term aim of developing a more proactive maintenance function.

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across production machinery.
  • Responding to equipment breakdowns and carrying out fault finding.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical or electrical faults.
  • Working on motors, drives, conveyors, gearboxes, bearings and hydraulic systems.
  • Maintaining and repairing specialist machinery, including extruders, braiders, winders and armouring machines.
  • Carrying out basic electrical fault finding, including three-phase and single-phase systems.
  • Supporting machinery improvements, modifications and upgrades.
  • Welding, fabrication and component repairs where required.
  • Working closely with production operators to minimise downtime.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and equipment reliability.

Depending on your background, you will have either a mechanical or electrical bias, with an approximate 80/20 split between your core discipline and secondary skills.

What We're Looking For

We are interested in speaking with Maintenance Engineers from a manufacturing, industrial or similar engineering background. You should have:

  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment, or been an engineer in the armed forces.
  • A mechanical or electrical engineering bias.
  • Experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Good fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement.

Don't worry if you don't tick every box. The business is happy to invest in training and further development for the right person.

Salary & Benefits

£40,000 – £45,000 basic salary. Realistic additional earnings of £5,000 through overtime. Overtime paid at 1.3x and 1.5x, depending on hours worked. Sunday overtime paid at double time. 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays. 4% pension contribution. Private healthcare scheme. Life assurance / death in service at 3x annual salary. Ongoing training and development opportunities.

Training & Career Development

This is a business that genuinely wants to develop its engineering team. Training can be provided in areas such as:

  • 18th Edition electrical qualifications.
  • PLC training and fault finding and interrogation.
  • Welding and fabrication.
  • Additional mechanical and electrical engineering skills.

There is also genuine longer-term progression potential, with opportunities to develop into Lead Engineer and potentially management positions as the department grows.

Why Join?

You'll be joining a specialist manufacturing business that is investing heavily in its future. With record-breaking turnover over the last two years, a £2 million investment in new production equipment and plans to expand the engineering team, this is an exciting time to join. You'll have the opportunity to work on a varied range of specialist machinery, develop your technical abilities and play an important part in improving engineering standards across the site.
