The company:
Our client is a well-established precision engineering business, operating primarily within the automotive sector, producing a range of critical plastic components. With over 400 employees on site and a dedicated precision engineering team, they have built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions to a range of external clients. Due to continued growth and an increasing volume of incoming projects, they are now looking to expand their design team. This hire will support the delivery of smaller projects and design modifications, allowing senior engineers to focus on more complex, bespoke machinery development.
The role:
As a Drafting & Design Engineer, you will play a key role within a close-knit engineering team, acting as the link between design and manufacturing. You will be responsible for taking design requests from concept through to production-ready drawings, ensuring all designs are practical, manufacturable, and clearly communicated to the shop floor.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing 2D drawings using AutoCAD and 3D models using SolidWorks
- Creating detailed manufacturing drawings including dimensions, tolerances, and materials
- Designing components such as tooling, jigs, fixtures, brackets, and assemblies
- Managing your own workload of incoming design and drawing modification requests
- Applying design-for-manufacture principles to ensure cost-effective production
- Supporting production and tooling teams with drawing updates and technical queries
- Creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Working closely with engineers and project teams to develop solutions and prototypes
- Maintaining drawing standards, revision control, and documentation accuracy
What we're looking for in a candidate:
- Experience using SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD software)
- A good understanding of engineering drawings and basic manufacturing processes
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a team
- A proactive and problem-solving mindset
- Ability to manage your own workload and prioritise tasks
This role is open to graduates or junior engineers with the right attitude and CAD experience.
The Benefits:
- Competitive salary – £28k - £35k depending on experience
- Early finish on Fridays (1pm)
- 28 days holiday (increasing with service)
- Overtime available (1.25x weekdays / 1.5x Saturdays)
- Life assurance (4x salary)
- Pension scheme
- On-site cafe and gym facilities
- Structured training, mentoring, and development
- Clear progression route to Senior Design Engineer
