The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting experienced Electrical Test & Commissioning Engineers to support a major warehouse automation project in Coalville, Leicestershire. Working on behalf of a global leader in automated material handling and intralogistics solutions, you will play a key role in the testing, commissioning, and final delivery of a state-of-the-art automated distribution centre for one of the UK's largest retailers. This is an excellent opportunity to join a long-term automation project involving advanced conveyor systems, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), robotics, controls systems, and warehouse software integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out electrical testing and commissioning activities on automated material handling equipment.
- Perform system validation, functional testing, and fault-finding activities.
- Support Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and performance testing.
- Test and commission conveyors, sortation systems, cranes, shuttles, and associated controls equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and controls-related issues.
- Work closely with PLC Engineers, Controls Engineers, Software Engineers, and Project Teams.
- Record test results, defects, and commissioning progress.
- Support and oversee integration testing between PLC, SCADA, WCS, and WMS systems.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with site procedures.
- Liaise directly with customers and project stakeholders where required.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in electrical testing and commissioning within automation, material handling, intralogistics environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical control systems and automated machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and control panel documentation.
- Experience fault-finding and resolving issues using JIRA on automated equipment and controls systems.
- Knowledge of PLC-controlled systems, including troubleshooting and commissioning activities.
- Experience working with conveyors, sortation systems, automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), cranes, shuttles, or similar automated equipment.
- Familiarity with Siemens and/or Allen Bradley PLC environments.
- Understanding of SCADA, WCS, and WMS systems and their integration within automated facilities.
- Experience supporting Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), functional testing, and system validation activities.
- ECS Card required.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work closely with engineers, project teams, and customers on site.
