The Role
We are recruiting an Engineering Shift Manager for a large, high-volume FMCG manufacturing site supplying major UK retailers. This is a hands-on leadership role within a modern, well-invested production environment operating automated lines. The Engineering Shift Manager position is mainly hands-on but also carries a responsibility for leading a shift team of 3 engineers, ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and compliance at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and motivate the shift engineering team to deliver high performance
- Plan and prioritise workload to maximise machinery uptime and production output
- Execute planned preventative maintenance and respond effectively to breakdowns
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, GMP, and food safety standards
- Control permit-to-work and isolation procedures
- Complete shift reports, CMMS updates, and basic root cause analysis
- Manage holidays, training, performance, and development of engineers
Technical Focus
Electrical:
- Fault finding using a multimeter
- Panels, sensors, relays, motors, and safety circuits
- AC/DC systems and reading electrical drawings
Mechanical:
- Conveyors, bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, and pneumatics
- PLC experience is beneficial but not essential.
The Ideal Candidate
- Electrical apprenticeship / NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds
- Background in manufacturing
- Strong electrical fault-finding and isolation (LOTO) experience
- Hands-on, proactive attitude with strong leadership presence
