This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well‑established, privately owned engineering business delivering bespoke mechanical tooling, jigs, fixtures and automated assembly systems to high‑profile OEMs and Tier 1 manufacturers.
About the Business
The company specialises in the design and manufacture of engineered‑to‑order mechanical and automated assembly solutions, including torque reaction systems, electronic torque tooling, jigs, fixtures and special purpose machinery. All projects are delivered end‑to‑end from a single UK site, covering concept design, detailed engineering, manufacture, assembly and testing. This allows engineers to retain full technical ownership and see their designs through to real‑world implementation. The business supports major automotive manufacturers and suppliers, delivering robust and repeatable assembly solutions used in high‑precision production environments. Following continued demand from OEM customers, the company is investing in its design team as part of a structured growth plan.
The Role – Mechanical Design Engineer
You will join a small, experienced engineering team working on multiple bespoke projects simultaneously. The role is heavily design‑focused, with close interaction across manufacturing and project engineering. The position is predominantly 3D CAD‑based, producing detailed models and manufacturing drawings for mechanical and automated systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design bespoke jigs, fixtures, tooling and automated assembly systems
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings
- Manage designs from concept through to production handover
- Perform engineering calculations (force, strength, load, basic FEA)
- Participate in design reviews and project handover meetings
- Create, check and approve drawings and BOMs
- Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly teams
- Support engineering changes throughout the project lifecycle
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer
- Strong 3D CAD and 2D drawing capability
- Comfortable working across multiple projects
- Practical, hands‑on engineering approach
Qualifications:
- HNC / HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
