Position: Steward / Kitchen Porter

Reports to: Chef de Partie

What will I get?

  • Competitive gross salary up to £36,500 per annum based on a 40‑hour working week, including a base salary of £26,500 plus a service charge of approximately £9,000‑£10,000 per year.

What will I be doing as Kitchen Porter?

To carry out all the required duties within the stewarding department and related areas, ensuring the maintenance of 5‑star safety and hygiene standards. This includes cleaning the operating equipment, such as China, glassware, and kitchen equipment, in the back‑of‑house areas.

Your specific responsibilities as a Steward:

  • Assisting in the preparation of operating equipment for functions, inventories, and other requirements, and distributing them as needed.
  • Washing and polishing all operating equipment and cooking utensils, ensuring their cleanliness before distribution.
  • Emptying bins, clearing and sorting refuse for operating equipment according to the hotel's policy.
  • Thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all areas related to refuse when necessary.
  • Washing, disinfecting, degreasing, drying, and polishing all floor surfaces, walls, kitchen equipment, extract vents, ceilings, and other equipment before, during, and after each meal service, as well as when required.
  • Assisting with the cleaning of operating equipment during banquet functions or at peak periods in the back‑of‑house areas related to the outlets.
  • Cleaning the staff canteen and any equipment within, replenishing daily food supplies, beverages and condiments.
  • Attending meetings and training as advised and required by Head Chef and HR.
  • Maintaining own area materials and company property clean, tidy and in good shape; reports defective materials and equipment to the Head Chef.

  • Intermediate communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast‑paced and changing environment.
  • Proven organisational skills, working well independently, and capable of setting and meeting deadlines while delivering quality results.
  • Enthusiastic and positive personality, with the ability to build trusting relationships with others.
  • Willingness to work on rotating shifts and flexible hours including weekends and public holidays.
