Asymmetric is the first AI-native Digital Forensics and Incident Response company. Our AI platform has helped incident responders handle hundreds of cyber attacks. Building on this experience, we’re creating realistic training scenarios and evaluations to improve both our cyberdefense capabilities and those of frontier AI labs. Our mission is to accelerate AI cyberdefense to address the security challenges of the AGI era. We believe that automated digital forensics, i.e. deep security investigations, will become ubiquitous in a world with abundant intelligence.
About the Role: Asymmetric has built and shipped a production platform that automates email compromise investigations, established product market fit, and assembled a talented team of cybersecurity incident responders. Our cloud platform is live and serving customers today. We are now hiring Founding Engineers to scale the platform and deepen our capabilities. The work will be technically challenging and varied. We operate a cloud-native multi-tenant SaaS platform, develop agentic AI systems for automated investigations, and build cyberdefense evaluations to measure AI performance against real cyber incidents.
For example, we need to:
- Evolve and scale our cloud platform: FastAPI backend, PostgreSQL + Redis, React frontend, DuckDB + Parquet analytics layer, deployed across multi-cloud/region/tenant enterprise infrastructure.
- Build cyberdefense evaluations to measure how our AI systems are performing against the real cyber incidents we respond to.
- Develop and deploy agentic systems capable of more and more complex investigations.
- Harden our infrastructure: real-time collaboration, live API evidence collection, and SOC2-compliant operations at production scale.
We’re hiring across the spectrum — from full‑stack engineers who want to ship product end-to-end, to infrastructure and SRE‑leaning engineers who want to make a production system fast, reliable, and observable. If you’re excited about the mission and strong in any of these areas, we want to hear from you.
Illustrative Responsibilities:
- Build AI systems to automate cybersecurity incident investigations.
- Ship and operate the cloud platform: backend services, data pipelines, frontend, and infrastructure.
- Build evaluations to assess AI performance at cyberdefense tasks.
- Play a leading role in technical development and make key architectural decisions.
- Own reliability, performance, and observability: SLOs, on‑call practices, incident response, and capacity planning as we grow.
- Strengthen engineering best practices: automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring systems, and processes that maintain code quality and enable quick issue resolution.
- Partner on product direction: work with our security and product leads to shape what we build next.
You May Be a Fit If You:
- Have built, shipped, and operated production software — whether leading full‑stack product work or running the systems behind it.
- Have strong Python backend skills — comfortable designing APIs, writing async code, and building reliable task pipelines with frameworks like FastAPI, Celery, and SQLAlchemy/Alembic.
- Have experience deploying LLMs with technologies such as LangChain and RAG.
- Can design and implement model evaluations.
- Are comfortable with modern web tooling — React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind — or are happy to partner with engineers who are.
- Have experience with cloud infrastructure — GCP or AWS, Terraform, Docker, containerized deployments, monitoring and observability.
- Are comfortable with data‑intensive workloads — processing large volumes of audit logs, working with columnar formats like Parquet, and thinking about how data flows through a system.
- Bring hands‑on experience creating CI/CD processes, automated testing frameworks, and monitoring and observability systems.
- Thrive on close collaboration with users to iterate rapidly and deliver working software.
- Are deeply motivated by our mission.
You’re encouraged to apply even if you don’t believe you meet every listed qualification.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with cybersecurity, incident response, or forensics tooling.
- Kubernetes and container orchestration.
- Experience with PostgreSQL at scale, including schema migrations (Alembic), performance tuning, and replication.
- Experience with Redis beyond simple caching — task queues, pub/sub, rate limiting.
- Experience with analytical databases (ClickHouse, DuckDB, BigQuery) or data engineering pipelines.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Graph API or Google Workspace Admin SDK.
- Experience building multi‑tenant SaaS with tenant isolation and RBAC.
- Background in SOC2 compliance or working in regulated environments.
- Site reliability engineering experience: on‑call rotations, incident response, SLO/SLI design, or chaos engineering.
- WebSocket and real‑time systems experience.
- Contributions to open source or a track record of shipping side projects.
