Founded in 1999, Asymchem has grown into a leading global integrated Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), renowned for its innovative solutions and commitment to excellence. Since 2024, Asymchem has been operating research laboratories and a small molecule API pilot plant at Discovery Park, Sandwich, UK, establishing our first manufacturing facility in Europe and expanding our capabilities to meet the needs of global clients. The Sandwich facility acts as the flagship site for European R&D and we are looking to recruit into key roles. Working within our state-of-the-art laboratories at Sandwich, your role will be to design and develop new routes to starting materials, intermediates and APIs (Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredients) through considered, data-driven experimental execution in the laboratory. Within a collaborative team environment, you will create safe, robust, scalable and efficient chemical processes to manufacture pharmaceutical APIs. You will also have the opportunity to transfer these chemical processes to scale up facilities and ultimately manufacturing.

Asymchem will invest in your development so that you can:

  • Design and demonstrate new synthetic routes to small molecule API candidates.
  • Develop robust processes which ensure safe, reproducible and scalable manufacturing in large scale GMP equipment.
  • Employ a range of laboratory equipment from mg to multigram scale, in conjunction with a suite of analytical tools, to maximise the generation of knowledge from each experiment.
  • Contribute directly to technology transfer activities into the Sandwich pilot plant facility and other sites within the Asymchem network.
  • Collaborate with scientists within and outside functional area to achieve team goals.
  • Utilise a systematic, methodical approach to solve complex chemistry problems and identify the root cause of any processing issues.
  • Perform laboratory operations with a critical focus on safety ensuring process safety guidelines are followed when conducting scale-up experiments.
  • Apply a continuous improvement mindset to identify opportunities for improved work processes to deliver increased productivity, safety and quality.
  • Utilise the experience of the group to support continued professional development in a range of technical areas to develop a high level of expertise supplemented with transferrable soft skills.

A degree in chemistry with a very good knowledge of organic chemistry is essential. Industrial experience in pharmaceutical or a related industry is desirable but not essential. The ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written forms is essential. A collaborative approach to working in a team environment is essential. Proactive planning and organizational skills and the ability of multi-tasking and prioritizing in a highly dynamic environment are also essential.
