Job purpose, tasks and responsibilities
As our Head of Training and Service Delivery, you'll be Astutis' most senior authority on health, safety and environmental (HSE) expertise, qualifications and compliance. You'll lead Astutis' technical direction, ensuring all learning products, consultancy outputs and assessments meet the standards set by global awarding bodies, like NEBOSH, IOSH, ISEP and other accreditation bodies.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Acting as the senior technical authority for NEBOSH, IOSH and IEMA programmes.
- Leading the quality assurance of all learning materials, including content, assessments, marking schemes, tutor guidance and digital resources.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with key awarding bodies and regulators, including NEBOSH, IOSH, IEMA and BOHS.
- Driving Astutis' response to regulatory and industry developments (e.g. HSE updates, ISO 45001 changes, emerging best practice).
- Ensuring all assessment, examination and internal quality processes meet accreditation standards and are fully audit-ready.
- Providing expert leadership to technical, consultancy and quality teams, supporting capability development and high performance.
- Supporting product innovation, including the development of new courses, CPD modules and blended or digital-first learning solutions.
- Representing Astutis at industry forums, professional networks, panels and qualification review boards.
- Overseeing the delivery of bespoke and high-value client projects, including project management and stakeholder engagement.
- Acting as the escalation point for complex technical queries, disputes and client challenges.
- Supporting internal and external audits (e.g. NEBOSH, ISO 9001, ISO 45001), ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
- Monitoring industry trends, legislation and emerging risks to maintain Astutis' position as a market leader.
- Acting as a mentor and trusted advisor to colleagues across the business, including tutors, assessors and account managers.
- Driving commercial performance through effective resource planning, technical efficiency and quality-led cost management.
- Contributing to budgeting and supporting the achievement of strategic business objectives.
- Providing training delivery support where required to ensure continuity of service.

Essential and desirable capabilities
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Commerciality with a focus on client solutions enablement.
- Extensive experience in health and safety leadership roles, ideally within NEBOSH-accredited training centres or consultancy environments.
- In-depth technical understanding of NEBOSH Diploma syllabi, marking criteria, assessment methodologies and examiner expectations.
- Strong working knowledge of IOSH, ISEP, BOHS and other awarding-body frameworks.
- Deep understanding of global HSE legislation, risk management principles, accident investigation, control strategies and safety management systems.
- Experience managing technical, consultancy or quality teams in a regulated training or HSE organisation.
- Proven experience delivering or overseeing high-stakes assessments, quality assurance and accredited programmes.
- Exceptional ability to interpret standards (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 9001) and apply them across training and consultancy outputs.
- Chartered status (CMIOSH, CEnv, FIIRSM, etc.).
To be successful in this role, it would be great if you have:
- Experience serving as a NEBOSH examiner, IOSH reviewer or EQA auditor.
- Experience leading digital transformation in HSE learning or assessment environments.
- Experience engaging with senior clients across high-risk industries (construction, oil & gas, manufacturing, transport).
