Astute's Nuclear Team is partnering with a leading engineering consultancy delivering complex projects across the defence and nuclear sectors to recruit an Electrical Nuclear Safety Engineer to support a portfolio of major nuclear projects across the UK, based out of their offices in Bristol or Gloucester. Responsibilities and duties of the Electrical Nuclear Safety Engineer role:
  • Deliver electrical engineering and nuclear safety support across a diverse range of nuclear projects.
  • Develop and implement solutions to complex electrical power system and control & instrumentation (C&I) challenges.
  • Undertake engineering assessments, design modification reviews, and safety justifications for nuclear facilities.
  • Support hazard analysis, design basis assessments, probabilistic assessments, and safety functional requirement development.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of safety for operational nuclear facilities.
  • Support qualification and substantiation activities to demonstrate compliance with safety requirements.
  • Act as an engineering lead on complex nuclear projects where required.
  • Develop and support safety cases for both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
  • Author, review, and verify technical and safety-related documentation.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships whilst supporting project delivery and business growth.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and consultants.
  • Ensure projects are delivered to agreed quality, programme, and budget requirements.
Professional qualifications:
  • Demonstrable 5+ years of civil nuclear or defence nuclear infrastructure experience working on electrical and C&I engineering problems.
  • A Degree, Master's or PhD in a relevant STEM subject.
  • A willingness to travel and spend time on client sites.
  • Experience working in highly regulated and/or high hazard industries.
  • Technical oversight; leadership; and independent review.
  • Experience in project management and commercial aspects.
  • Technical consultancy experience.
  • Ideally Chartered with a professional institution.
