Astute's Power team is partnered with a global waste management company, who operate a portfolio of Energy from Waste Power Stations, to recruit a Shift Team Leader for their Energy from Waste Power Station in Birmingham, West Midlands. The vital Shift Team Leader / Shift Engineer role comes with a salary of up to £66,877.68 + Up to 15% Bonus + Overtime + Benefits. Responsibilities and duties

  • Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Day-to-day leadership of the shift operations team who will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the plant.
  • Ensuring the plant is operating within its parameters whilst complying with strict HSE rules and regulations as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Managing the site's safety systems including the permit to work system and acting as a HV Senior Authorised Person for the purpose of issuing permits, switching, and carrying out isolations.
  • Providing technical supervision and assistance where necessary for company and contract staff engaged in work.
  • Providing effective training and monitoring of shift staff to ensure personnel are competent to undertake their duties.
  • Providing effective administration and application of safe systems of work and Health and Safety policies.

Professional qualifications

  • Have a technical qualification, ideally have a HNC minimum qualification (not a necessity), in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Being HV Senior Authorised Person will be highly advantageous.
  • Ideally have a formal Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH.

Personal skills and prior experience

  • The Shift Team Leader role would suit someone who has:
  • Prior experience working in operations within a heavy process engineering environment such as Power (EfW, Biomass, CCGT, OCGT, Coal, etc.), Steelworks, Refineries, COMAH sites, etc.
  • Excellent proven leadership skills.
  • Experience working with steam raising plant.
  • Good knowledge of safe systems of work and health & safety within a power station or similar heavy process environment.
