Astute's Nuclear Team is partnering with an international player in the nuclear energy market to recruit a Manufacturing Engineer for their facility in Cranfield. The Manufacturing Engineer will provide operational engineering support across current and future project activities within laboratory and workshop facilities. This role focuses on the planning, build, commissioning, maintenance, and operation of R&D test rigs and systems, ensuring delivery meets customer expectations and industry best practice.
Responsibilities and duties of the Manufacturing Engineer role:
- Work closely with engineering and project management teams to translate design concepts into fully functional measurement and test systems.
- Create and develop process flow diagrams (PFDS), piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDS), engineering schematics, work instructions and assembly instructions.
- Assemble and install mechanical components, machinery, and equipment in line with technical drawings and specifications.
- Build and commission test rigs and measurement systems.
- Operate test rigs to perform validation and verification activities.
- Carry out routine maintenance, inspection, and repair of equipment and systems.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose faults, replacing defective components where required.
- Manage procurement of goods and materials to support project delivery.
- Plan and track project milestones to ensure timely completion.
- Maintain accurate maintenance, calibration, and operational records.
- Ensure all work is conducted in line with Health & Safety standards and procedures.
- Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure 'right first time' delivery.
Professional qualifications:
- HND or equivalent in Engineering (Mechanical, I&C, or similar).
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a manufacturing, R&D, test, or service environment.
- Proven experience in an engineering role with hands-on responsibilities.
- Experience managing project work packages and delivering to deadlines.
- Familiarity with ISO or similar procedural environments.
Personal skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams and do calculations down to the first principle.
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools.
- Effective communicator with strong teamwork skills.
- Physically capable of working in varied environments (e.g., confined spaces, working at height).
