Astute’s Engineering team is working with a leading engineering services provider to recruit a Trainee Field-Based Engineer to join their growing workforce delivering mechanical and multi-skilled engineering support across the UK.
The Trainee Field-Based Engineer will work alongside experienced engineers to gain hands-on experience in mechanical repairs, installations, and servicing, with a structured training plan designed to develop core skills in hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for individuals from any background to develop a long-term career in engineering, supported by dedicated mentorship and clear progression routes.

Responsibilities and duties:
As the Trainee Field-Based Engineer, you will be:
• Supporting senior engineers on-site with installation, maintenance, and repair work
• Assisting with mechanical assembly, fault finding, and routine servicing tasks
• Maintaining a safe and organised working environment at all times
• Completing job records, timesheets, and service reports accurately using tablets/PDAs
• Attending internal and external training courses to develop core technical skills
• Travelling to customer sites, with occasional overnight stays required
Professional qualifications:
We are looking for someone with the following:
• A strong interest in engineering, mechanics, or maintenance
• A practical and hands-on approach to work
• Mechanical HNC/NVQ/C&G/B-Tech
• Willingness to learn and complete formal training
• Ability to record and document work digitally
• Full UK driving licence
• Flexibility to travel and occasionally work unsociable hours or stay overnight
