Astute’s Power Team is partnering with a leading power company to recruit a Shift Team Leader for their Biomass Power Station in Chester.

Responsibilities and duties of the Shift Team Leader
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will:
- Supervise and manage shift team operations, including staffing, daily tasks, and performance oversight.
- Train, coach, and develop shift personnel to ensure continuous improvement and operational competency.
- Act as emergency controller during plant incidents, coordinating response and safety procedures.
- Issue and control permits to work, including High Voltage (HV), ensuring adherence to safe systems of work (SSOW).
- Monitor plant processes and control room operations, responding to alarms to maintain stability.
- Ensure environmental compliance, adjusting processes and analyzing parameters as per license requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to site rules and incident reporting.
- Use CMMS to manage maintenance activities, including raising and tracking work orders.
- Produce and analyze shift reports to document activities and support improvements.
- Coordinate with internal departments and emergency services for smooth operations and safety readiness.
- Manage HR issues within the team, including shift cover, conflict resolution, and development.
- Review and update operational and safety procedures in collaboration with the line manager.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for candidates with:
- HNC / ONC in engineering or relevant discipline
- At least 5 years of experience in operations, working with DCS, preferably in the power sector
- Experience with Safety Rules, ideally as an Authorised Person or Senior Authorised Person (highly desirable)
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualification (highly desirable)
