Astute People's Power Team are exclusively working with the South Clyde Energy Centre to recruit a full complement of Operations & Maintenance staff. The plant, currently under construction, is capable of processing up to 350,000 tonnes of waste per year, producing power for up to 70,000 homes. This new build Power Station is due to enter commercial operation by the end of 2026. Now is an ideal time to join the power station as you'll be involved in full plant commissioning, training & mobilisation.

We are looking for a Control & Instrumentation Engineer / Team Leader to join the Maintenance Team on this brand new facility. As the C&I Engineer you'll be involved with planning the daily maintenance activity of the Control & Instrumentation Technicians as well as supporting with the preventative and corrective maintenance, outage & project planning and managing third party contractors. Responsibilities and duties:

  • Scheduling, planning and optimising all controls & instrumentation maintenance activities in a safe and efficient manner
  • Leading and managing a team of C&I Technicians to ensure the plant is maintained to the highest standard to ensure maximum plant availability
  • Planning outages & project work
  • Managing strategic spares
  • Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner and in line with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies
  • Assisting in the setting up and development of the sites Computerised Maintenance Management System
  • Supervising and directing contractors
  • Working closely with the operations department to assess and review plant performance shortfalls and how these can be rectified

Professional qualifications:

  • A recognised qualification in electrical / electronic engineering at HNC level or higher; other qualifications below this will be considered with extensive experience
  • Ideally qualified with an IOSH or equivalent with an appreciation of workplace Health & Safety including knowledge of Safe Systems of Work, LOTO, Isolations, SOP's, RAMS would also be considered
  • Recognised Control & Instrumentation / Automation Apprenticeship

Personal skills:

  • At least five years supervisory or leadership experience or able to demonstrate extensive leadership qualities
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with a range of equipment including DCS & PLC systems, Instrumentation (maintenance and calibration) which includes; Flow, Level, Pressure, Temperature etc
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of CEMS (Continuous Emissions Monitoring equipment) and Environmental Permits
  • Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in an industry such as Power Generation, Petrochemical or Oil & Gas etc
  • Experience in leading a team of technicians in daily maintenance practices and procedures
  • Involvement in plant mobilisation and commissioning is desirable but not essential
