Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting for 2 Plant Operators to join the commissioning team for their team on the installation of the synchronous condenser on the operational CCGT plant based in Pembrokeshire. These roles are to cover 12 hour night shifts for 3 months initially. The Plant Operator positions come with a night shift rate from £400.00 to £500.00 outside of IR35.
Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:
- Operated and monitored synchronous condenser plant systems during commissioning, energisation, and normal operational activities, ensuring safe and efficient plant performance.
- Experienced in the use of SCADA systems for plant monitoring, alarm management, trend analysis, switching activities, and fault identification across electrical generation and grid support systems.
- Assisted commissioning and operations teams during start-up, shutdown, synchronisation, and performance testing activities for synchronous condenser and associated auxiliary systems.
- Carried out routine operational checks on transformers, MV/LV switchgear, cooling systems, DC systems, protection systems, pumps, and associated balance of plant equipment.
- Supported troubleshooting and fault-finding activities on electrical and control systems, escalating plant issues where required to minimise downtime and maintain operational reliability.
- Participated in system walk-downs, turnover inspections, and punch-list management activities between construction, commissioning, and operations teams.
- Maintained accurate operational logs, SCADA records, permits, switching schedules, and commissioning documentation in line with site procedures and safety standards.
- Worked closely with Commissioning Engineers, Authorised Persons, and site management teams to ensure safe system energisation and operational readiness.
- Over 7 years' experience within power generation, substations, and grid infrastructure environments, with strong operational knowledge of electrical plant and SCADA-controlled systems.
- Strong safety focus, excellent communication skills, and proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and international project teams.
