Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading Energy from Waste site to recruit an Operations Engineer for its site in Worcestershire. The Operations Engineer role comes with a starting salary of up to 66,000 + benefits. Responsibilities and duties of the Operations Engineer:
- Lead by example in promoting a safe working environment and enforcing all SHEQ policies and procedures.
- Manage and support safety initiatives, housekeeping programmes, and site compliance activities.
- Draft, review, and audit operational procedures, Emergency Action Plans, Toolbox Talks, and Risk Assessments.
- Supervise and manage Day Operatives and Industrial Cleaners, including rotas, staffing levels, and cover arrangements.
- Ensure all team members are fully trained, competent, and authorised to undertake their duties safely.
- Oversee maintenance, servicing, and repair of mobile plant equipment, site drainage systems, and administrative facilities.
- Provide operational guidance and technical support to the Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) department.
- Act as a nominated Supervisor under Severn Waste Services Safety Rules and support SAP duties when required.
- Maintain compliance with legislation, planning permissions, and environmental permit conditions.
- Manage stock levels of operational consumables, ensuring timely ordering and availability.
Professional qualifications:
- Demonstrable operational experience in the power generation sector or a similar high‑hazard industrial environment.
- Strong maintenance background with knowledge of plant, equipment, and industrial systems.
- Good understanding of environmental permits, health & safety legislation, and operational safety rules.
- Experience managing contractors and supervising teams in a demanding, fast‑paced environment.
- Competent with IT systems, reporting tools, and data analysis to support operational decision‑making.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage confidently at all organisational levels.
- Adaptable, reliable, and proactive, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to high standards.
