Astute People’s Power Team is exclusively working with the South Clyde Energy Centre to recruit a full team of Operations & Maintenance staff. The plant, currently under construction, will process up to 350,000 tonnes of waste annually, generating power for approximately 70,000 homes. This new Power Station is scheduled to commence commercial operations by the end of 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to join during the plant\’s commissioning, training, and mobilisation phases.

Position: Mechanical Engineer / Team Leader

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Maintenance Team at this new facility. The role involves planning daily maintenance activities for Mechanical Technicians, supporting preventative and corrective maintenance, outage and project planning, and managing third-party contractors.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and manage a team of mechanical maintenance technicians to ensure high standards of plant maintenance and maximum availability.
  2. Plan, schedule, and optimize mechanical maintenance activities safely and efficiently.
  3. Supervise and coordinate contractors.
  4. Collaborate with operations to assess plant performance and implement improvements.
  5. Assist in setting up and developing the site’s Computerised Maintenance Management System.
  6. Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, and environmental policies.
  7. Manage stores and inventory efficiently.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess:

  • A recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification at HNC level or higher; extensive experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
  • Ideally, IOSH or equivalent qualification, with knowledge of workplace health & safety standards such as Safe Systems of Work, LOTO, Isolations, SOPs, RAMS.
  • Recognised Mechanical Maintenance Apprenticeship.

Personal Skills:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least five years of supervisory or leadership experience or demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Knowledge of pressure systems safety regulations (PSSR), LOLER, PUWER.
  • Extensive experience with equipment such as boilers, turbines, pumps, valves, compressors, conveyors, gearboxes.
  • Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment, preferably in Power Generation, Petrochemical, or Oil & Gas industries.
  • Experience leading technician teams in maintenance practices.
  • Experience in plant mobilisation and commissioning is advantageous but not essential.
