The organisation is looking to recruit a Senior Design Engineer based in Derbyshire. The Senior Design Engineer role comes with a competitive salary of 45,000β70,000, depending on experience. Responsibilities- Lead and manage a team of Graduate and Design Engineers to deliver high-quality electrical and solar PV system designs.
- Review and approve design submissions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and adherence to industry standards.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the design team.
- Perform electrical system designs, including cable sizing, protection calculations, and designer risk assessments.
- Conduct site assessments across commercial and industrial projects (up to 500kW) including ground-mounted, rooftop, and microgrid systems.
- Prepare technical documentation and cost estimates for tender submissions.
- Liaise with clients and stakeholders to ensure designs meet technical and project requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, maintain accurate project records, and share knowledge across the team.
- Work predominantly in the office 3 days per week (flexible to 1 day) and travel locally for project surveys, before, during, and after construction.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (2382-22)
- Electrical design & verification of electrical installations (QCF Level 4 / 2396)
- Experience with commercial and industrial solar PV projects, including HV/LV systems.
- Proficiency in CAD, PV CAD, PV Syst, PV Sol, Trimble, and Mode Exsoft.
- Minimum 5 years' relevant design experience, ideally across multiple UK sites.
- Desirable: Electrical installations (QCF Level 3 2357/2365), Electrical testing and inspection (QCF Level 3 / 2391), Any solar training courses or CPDs.
- Highly organised and detail-oriented.
- Able to lead and mentor a design team effectively.
- Confident in client-facing interactions.
- Committed to safety, compliance, and quality.
