Astute's Nuclear team is exclusively partnered with a specialist lifting and handling equipment business, acting as the lifting principal contractor on Hinkley Point C. We are currently recruiting a Lift/Rigging Supervisor to support safe lifting operations for gantry crane installation and maintenance. You will work in a highly regulated and safety-critical environment and prepare, inspect, and use lifting equipment (slings, shackles, chains, spreader beams, lifting frames) in line with LOLER and site standards.
Responsibilities
- Safely attach and detach loads to gantry crane hooks and lifting devices.
- Signal and direct crane operators during lifts, ensuring clear communication (using hand signals, radios, or agreed site protocols).
- Assist in the movement and positioning of heavy and complex loads, including large prefabricated nuclear plant components.
- Follow all Hinkley Point C site safety procedures, RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statements), and permit-to-work systems.
- Carry out pre-use inspections of rigging gear and report any defects immediately.
- Ensure exclusion zones are maintained during crane operations to protect the workforce.
- Maintain compliance with nuclear site regulations, site induction requirements, and security protocols.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
- Experience in assembly of gantry cranes.
- Level 3 Apprenticeship in Moving Loads, Lifting and Position Steel Structures, Plant or Equipment or Steel Erection. OR Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Moving Loads, Lifting and Position Steel Structures, Plant or Equipment or Steel Erection. (Minimum Level 6 in the above if apprenticeship/qualification awarded in Scotland) OR ACE Card in Moving Loads.
Personal skills
The Rigger role would suit someone who has:
- Strong situational awareness and communication skills.
