Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading facilities management company to recruit a Lead Electrical Design Engineer for its Decarbonisation and Energy division. The role comes with a starting salary of up to £90,000 + car allowance + benefits package.

Responsibilities and duties:
  • Deliver high-quality electrical designs across RIBA Stages 2-4, supporting stages 5-6 through construction and commissioning.
  • Integrate low-carbon systems including solar PV, battery storage, smart lighting, and heat pump-compatible electrical infrastructure.
  • Conduct technical assessments such as load calculations, equipment sizing, and regulatory compliance (BS 7671, IET, UK Building Regs).
  • Provide input for energy modelling and simulations using tools like Amtech, Dialux, PVSol, IES, and EnergyPro.
  • Ensure alignment with industry standards including CIBSE, PAS 2035, MCS, and Building Safety Act regulations.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary designs, integrating mechanical and energy systems for cohesive project outcomes.
  • Lead technical reviews, design risk assessments, and support the maintenance of project risk registers.
  • Produce and review technical reports, drawings, and specifications, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team culture.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to communicate technical concepts, influence design strategy, and support funding applications (e.g., PSDS, ReFit).
Professional qualifications:
  • Degree-qualified in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (BEng or equivalent).
  • 6-10 years' experience in electrical building services design, ideally in retrofit or low-carbon projects.
  • Strong knowledge of BS 7671, IET Wiring Regulations, CIBSE guides, UK Building Regulations, and PAS 2035.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Amtech, Dialux, Relux, PVSol, and BIM/CAD platforms.
  • Experience with RIBA design stages, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience with public sector decarbonisation projects (e.g., PSDS, SHDF).
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with CIBSE or IMechE preferred; Retrofit Designer Certification is a plus.
