Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading principal contractor in the Energy from Waste sector to recruit a Lead Commissioning Boiler Engineer on a contract basis for its West Midlands site from September 2026. The Lead Commissioning Boiler Engineer role comes with a day rate of Β£600.

Key skills required for the Lead Commissioning Boiler Engineer role:

  • Take ownership of boiler commissioning activities, ensuring delivery in line with project requirements, contractual obligations, and HSEQ standards.
  • Review, implement, and enforce HSEQ requirements during commissioning, ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with RAMS, site standards, and applicable legislation.
  • Take overall responsibility for commissioning the full boiler package, ensuring all systems are delivered safely, on time, and in line with contractual and technical requirements.
  • Oversee and coordinate commissioning activities to ensure alignment with project contracts, schedules, budgets, and approved standards.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, OEMs, and external authorities to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality execution of commissioning activities.
  • Maintain accurate commissioning documentation, provide regular progress reports, and contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.

Must be degree-qualified Mechanical or Process Engineer with proven experience in the commissioning stages of a Power/EFW plant. Must have demonstrable experience delivering full boiler package on a large EFW facility. Must hold an SCC (Safety Contractors Certificate) or equivalent safety qualification. Hands-on experience with LOTO (Lock Out/Tag Out) and PTW systems in commissioning environments.
