Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading O&M provider to recruit a Mechanical Engineer for its Energy from Waste power plant in Hull. Responsibilities and duties of the Mechanical Engineer role
- Oversee all mechanical and structural engineering activities on site, ensuring full compliance with statutory, corporate and contractual requirements.
- Act as the site Mechanical Engineering Accountable Person, maintaining governance across pressure systems, lifting equipment, work at height and mechanical integrity.
- Lead and manage the mechanical engineering and maintenance team, ensuring safe delivery of planned and reactive work.
- Plan, schedule and execute maintenance activities using the site CMMS, ensuring asset reliability and compliance.
- Coordinate contractor activities and manage engineering service contracts.
- Support outages, projects and modifications, including handover from project delivery into operations.
- Lead investigations, audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to operational performance targets, KPI delivery and regulatory compliance.
- Support accreditation to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
- Provide technical leadership and out of hours support as required.
Professional qualifications
- HNC or HND in a mechanical engineering discipline or equivalent.
- Completed a recognised mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
- NEBOSH General Certificate.
- Experience working in power generation, energy from waste or a high-hazard continuous process environment.
- Proven people management and contractor supervision experience.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical and structural legislation and best practice.
- Experience managing maintenance systems, audits, investigations and management of change.
- Competence using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Working towards or holding professional engineering accreditation.
