Overview
Astute’s Power Team is partnering with a leading Engineering and Industrial Solutions Sub-Contractor who operate in the Power Generation, Utilities, Petrochemical and Heavy Industry sector.
We are looking for a Finance director to drive profitable growth and support major projects across the South East of England.
Responsibilities
- Lead all finance functions: budgeting, forecasting, management accounts, cash flow, audit, and financial compliance.
- Provide board-level strategic advice to enable sustainable, profitable growth across Mechanical & Electrical operations, projects, workshops, and 24/7 breakdown services.
- Partner with operations, projects, commercial and engineering teams to ensure financial rigour across project bids, contracts, cost control and performance management.
- Ensure robust risk management, systems, and internal controls; optimize processes for improved efficiency and transparency.
- Lead, mentor and develop the finance team; foster a high-performance culture aligned with the company’s values of reliability, professionalism, and doing things the right way.
Qualifications
- Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) with strong experience in engineering, utilities, power generation or similar heavy industries.
- Ideally qualified with a relevant Business or Finance degree
Personal skills
- Proven track record as a senior finance leader – ideally having held a Finance Director role in a project-led or 24/7 operational environment.
- Excellent commercial awareness: project finance, contract management, cost estimation, project margin improvement.
- Strong systems mindset; comfortable with financial systems, ERP, and data analysis to inform decision making.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to influence across all levels, from shop-floor engineers to the Board.
