Responsibilities and duties of the Engineering Manager role
- Lead and oversee a portfolio of engineering projects across multiple sites, ensuring delivery to agreed timeframes, safety standards, and budgets.
- Manage and mentor a team of Project Engineers, supporting their technical growth and professional development.
- Monitor project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain accurate reporting across all project phases.
- Champion high standards of health & safety, ensuring all engineering activity aligns with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Take ownership of process safety activities, including chairing or contributing to HAZOPs, Process Hazard Reviews, and LOPA assessments.
- Control engineering budgets, contribute to annual CAPEX planning, and ensure resources are allocated effectively.
- Produce concise updates, reports, and performance summaries as required by senior leadership.
- Work closely with Operations and Terminal Managers to identify, scope, and execute improvements across production, storage, and processing assets.
Professional qualifications
- A degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
- Strong working knowledge of process safety principles, including hazardous area classification, HAZOP, LOPA, and PHR methodologies.
- A solid grasp of UK health, safety and environmental legislation – NEBOSH General Certificate desirable.
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks such as PSSR, DSEAR and standards relating to plant and equipment integrity.
