Astute's Nuclear Team is partnering with a leading civil engineering and construction organisation to recruit a Design Engineer for major infrastructure projects across the UK, based at their offices in Swindon. The Design Engineer role comes with a competitive salary of £45,000- £55,000, plus car allowance and benefits package. Responsibilities and duties of the Design Engineer role

  • Manage design consultant activities to ensure compliance with project programmes and client requirements.
  • Act as the technical lead for permanent works design packages where required.
  • Manage the Technical Queries process, ensuring actions are assigned, tracked, and closed out effectively.
  • Coordinate design workshops, meetings, and interface activities whilst maintaining accurate records and action trackers.
  • Support the delivery of design programmes, ensuring all design deliverables are produced on time and to the required quality standards.
  • Review design submissions, drawings, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications and client requirements.
  • Manage and maintain design deliverable schedules and design progress reporting.
  • Coordinate requests for information between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attend and facilitate design interface meetings with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Support document control processes and ensure drawings are distributed effectively across project teams.
  • Manage BIM requirements for permanent and temporary works alongside BIM/CAD resources.
  • Support temporary works design processes and ensure compliance with relevant procedures.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, and engineering teams throughout project delivery.

Professional qualifications

  • Degree qualified or equivalent in an engineering related subject.
  • Previous experience in a Design Engineer, Design Coordinator, or Design Management role within construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies and engineering design processes.
  • Experience managing design deliverables, technical queries, and consultant coordination.
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and Principal Designer responsibilities.
  • Strong technical review capabilities with the ability to challenge and improve design solutions.
  • Experience within heavy civil engineering, infrastructure, or tunnelling projects would be advantageous.
