Astute are working on behalf of a leading O&M contractor with a large presence in the UK across Biomass & Energy from Waste Power Stations. We are looking for a Mechanical Technician to join the Maintenance Team of their Biomass plant located in Northumberland. As a Mechanical Technician, you will be providing front line maintenance at the facility and be responsible for all aspects of the safe, compliant, and efficient maintenance on the mechanical equipment and systems on site.

Responsibilities and dutiesReporting to the Maintenance Manager the Mechanical Technician will be:
- Carrying out reactive and preventative maintenance including fault finding, diagnosis and repairs of the plant which include gearboxes, valves, compressors, pumps, fans, boilers etc.
- Undertake measures to improve the plant reliability, efficiency, and performance of the plant proactively, always in a safe and efficient manner.
- Maintain the site CMMS and record all historical works undertaken.
- Supervise 3rd party subcontracts on all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
- Complete health and safety paperwork following company guidelines.
- Provide technical support to the fuel handling and operations team for the plant when required.
We are looking for someone with the following:
- A relevant technical qualification such as a City & Guilds Level 3/Apprenticeship in an engineering discipline.
- At least 5 years' experience (post apprenticeship) in a Maintenance environment on a Power Station/Heavy Process Plant. This could be Energy from Waste, Coal, CCGT, Biomass, CHP, Nuclear, Steel, Petrochemical etc.
- Royal Navy Marine Engineers with at least five years' service will also be considered.
- Ideally an IOSH or NEBOSH qualified.
The Mechanical Technician role would suit someone who has:
- Experience on heavy mechanical equipment such as Conveyors, Valves, Gearboxes, Pumps, Steam Raising equipment etc.
- Experience in managing sub-contractors would be advantageous.
- Familiar with steam raising systems, PSSR & LOLER would be desirable.
- Able to do manual lifting and working at heights or confined spaces.
