Astute's Renewable Team is partnering with a renewable energy provider with a commitment to professional development and sustainability within the solar industry, to recruit a Service Technician for a field-based role covering Colchester and surrounding areas. The Service Technician role comes with a salary between £45,000-£61,500 depending on experience, as well as company van & fuel card. Responsibilities and duties of the Service Technician role:
- Reporting to the Operations Manager you will:
- Perform both planned preventative and reactive maintenance on electrical, mechanical, communications, structural, and security systems.
- Identify and rectify faults within solar PV and battery storage systems.
- Conduct inspections, complete detailed reports and work orders, and maintain accurate site documentation.
- Oversee site and vehicle stock control while ensuring all work is carried out safely and in compliance with regulations.
- Supervise contractors, deliver site inductions, and promote safe systems of work.
- Participate in a weekend on-call rota to provide out-of-hours support.
- Travel to assist other regions when required, including overnight stays.
- Engage in ongoing technical, on-site, and classroom-based training, with opportunities for international training.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and biodiversity by proactively supporting site upkeep and sustainability initiatives.
- Happy to participate in an on-call rota (1 in 3 weekends).
Professional qualifications:
- Qualified Electrician or Electrical Engineer (BS7671).
- Inspection & testing experience (C&G 2391 52 or equivalent or working towards).
Personal Skills:
- The Service Technician role would suit someone who has a strong background in solar PV installation and maintenance, utility-scale experience is ideal.
- Experience with inverters/PCS (SMA, Sungrow, Power Electronics, Gamesa, etc.) highly desirable.
- HV experience preferred (Switchgear, transformers; AP/SAP training up to 33kV advantageous).
- Great problem-solving ability and confidence working independently.
- A proactive attitude, good communication skills and a steady approach.
- Enjoy working outdoors in all weather.
- Full clean UK driving licence.
Salary and benefits of the Service Technician role:
- Starting salary between £45,000-£55,000 (without HV) or up to £61,500 with HV.
