Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading Power Generation company to recruit a Mechanical Engineer for work across two of its Power Stations located in Northern Ireland. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the safe & efficient operation of the plant through ensuring optimal plant performance, reliability and compliance with regulatory standards. You will oversee a total of 1553MW generating units combined of Gas and Steam Turbines.

Responsibilities and duties: As the Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing and executing mechanical engineering activities including maintenance and engineering work, projects and outages.
  • Developing and maintaining an asset management plan to ensure the integrity of crucial assets including turbines (Gas and Steam), pumps, compressors, fans, fuel systems, pipework, valves etc.
  • Managing the long-term condition monitoring systems, overseeing predictive maintenance schedules and supporting with troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical faults.
  • Review and management of the mechanical spares, obsolescence strategies and procurement.
  • Leading Mechanical Projects including upgrades, replacement work and overhauls.
  • Management of contractor performance during outages and capital projects.
  • Supporting the management of LTSA's, negotiating scopes and evaluating technical proposals.

Professional qualifications: We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Mechanical Discipline
  • Chartered Mechanical Engineer (or working towards)

Personal skills: The Mechanical Engineer role would suit someone with/who:

  • Significant mechanical engineering experience ideally gained on a Combined Cycle or Open Cycle Power Station
  • At least 10 years experience with mechanical rotating plant
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and power station / industry standards including PSSRD
  • Detailed knowledge of maintenance philosophies
  • Project management experience
  • Contractor management experience
