Astute Peoples Power team are working exclusively with Encompass Digital Media, a global technology provider who operate a relay station & power station located in the Ascension Islands. This unique opportunity of Senior Engineer (Plant Manager) is responsible for the day to day operations & maintenance of the Islands Power Station. This remote generating station comprises of 5 diesel engines, five wind turbines, four reverse osmosis plants and 8 liquid storage tanks as well as associated LV / H plant, piping and distribution cables.

Responsibilities and duties of the Senior Engineer role:As the Senior Engineer, reporting to the Station Manager you will be:
- Ensure the safe & efficient operation of all Power Station Assets comprising of High Voltage Diesel Generators, Wind Turbines, Reverse Osmosis plant, Water Storage Tanks, Fuel Storage Tanks and associated distribution network.
- Oversee a continuous improvement programme through audits, coaching and mentoring.
- Manage the supply of electricity and water to the Island, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, and monitor consumption to optimize efficiency and sustainability.
- Mentor and develop staff in areas such as personal development, safe working practices, and time management.
- Manage holidays, sickness, disputes, and disciplinary matters while ensuring regular appraisals and the setting of SMART targets.
- Direct all operational and maintenance activities across the Island, serving as a key stakeholder in Island-wide decision-making.
- Identify and implement improvements in operational processes (shift patterns, holiday rotas, running regimes, safety documentation, modifications) and maintenance systems (major overhauls, station outages, upgrades, methods of work, stock management, and document control).
We are looking for someone with the following:
- Ideally educated with a HNC / HND in an Electrical or Mechanical Engineering field - Electrical bias would be advantageous.
- At least five years management experience.
- Prior working experience in a power station or similar heavy engineering process plant.
- Familiar with the operation and maintenance of large diesel engines, electrical generators and excitation systems, High Voltage switchgear and cables, water production and storage.
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualified would be advantageous.
- Qualified as a HV SAP.
The Senior Engineer role would suit someone who is:
- Familiar with budgets & commercial decision making.
- Able to act as an ambassador.
- Able to support and coach staff at varying technical abilities.
- Capable of living on a remote island with a lack of home comforts.
