Astute's Nuclear Team is partnering with a leader in industrial waste management to recruit a Radioactive Waste Team Lead for its Winfrith, Dorset site. The Radwaste Team Lead role comes with a salary between £50,000 - £55,000 (negotiable for the right candidate), pension scheme, and relocation assistance if necessary.

Responsibilities and duties of the Radwaste Team Lead role

Reporting to the Head of RDAT you will:

  • Ensure full compliance with all legislative, regulatory, and nuclear licence requirements for radioactive waste movements
  • Manage and coordinate site transport operations, including road, rail, air, and sea shipments
  • Oversee preparation and approval of transport documentation, packaging, and consignment arrangements
  • Act as the Radioactive Material Transport Responsible Officer (RMTRO) for the site
  • Lead and manage the RDAT team, providing technical guidance and support
  • Ensure all waste meets Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) prior to disposal
  • Maintain accurate waste tracking and nuclear materials accountancy records
  • Liaise with regulators, customers, and third-party disposal/recycling facilities
  • Support audits and ensure audit readiness across transport and waste compliance activities
  • Drive continuous improvement of internal processes and compliance procedures
Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A degree in radiochemistry, physics, or a related scientific/engineering discipline
  • Experience in radioactive waste management and/or dangerous goods transport
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations (ADR, EPR, nuclear site licence conditions)
  • Strong understanding of transport compliance and waste acceptance processes
  • DGSA qualification or willingness to work towards it
  • Experience in a regulated environment such as nuclear, manufacturing, or hazardous waste
