Astute's Power Team is exclusively partnered with our client to recruit for a Deputy Shift Team Leader to join a brand-new Energy from Waste Power Station, currently in commissioning phase, in Braintree, Essex. The EfW Power Station will process 595,000 tons of waste per annum to generate 55MW of electricity to export to the National Grid. The Deputy Shift Team Leader roles come with a salary range of £52,000 - £58,500 (inclusive of shift allowance) + Bonus + Overtime + further education allowances + other benefits.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Assisting the Shift Team Leader in the safe & efficient operation of the plant.
  • Carry out plant inspections, adjustments, readings and maintain all data accurately to ensure compliance with the environmental permit.
  • Manage and monitor plant consumables, ensuring stock levels are maintained and liaising with procurement to replenish supplies.
  • Supervising contractors, reviewing RAMS and ensuring all work is carried out in line with company legislation and processes.
  • Identify areas within the plant for improvement to improve efficiency / availability.
  • Monitoring of continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) and perform corrective adjustments to the process when required.
  • Working closely with the EPC team during commissioning to gain valuable training.

Professional qualifications

  • Ideally have an NVQ Level 3 or above qualification in an engineering discipline.
  • A formal health and safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH will be desirable.

Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

  • Prior experience working in heavy process engineering environments such as Power (EfW, CCGT, Coal, Biomass, CHP), Petrochemicals, Refineries, Paper Mills, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience working with steam generation equipment.
  • Extensive experience working with SCADA/DCS systems.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and cover for shift staff in times of absence on short notice.
