Astute's Power Team are looking for an Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation Technician to join a large, brand new Energy from Waste Power Station located in Elton, Cheshire. The facility, which is shortly entering the commissioning phase, will provide a vital outlet for the sustainable disposal of over 500,000 tonnes of residual waste per year and will generate up to 49.9 megawatts of low carbon energy - enough electricity to meet the needs of over 75,000 homes.

The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the EC&I Supervisor in performing pre-planned and reactive maintenance of all EC&I assets on site. If you have the right skills & experience and want to find out more, please get in touch!

Responsibilities and duties:
  • Pre-planned and reactive maintenance duties on all electrical, controls and instrumentation assets across the power station.
  • Fault finding/maintaining mostly electrical systems; motors, drives, single phase & three phase equipment, switchgear, high/low voltage plant etc. and instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level & flow) and control systems.
  • Calibrating instrumentation.
  • Conducting continuous improvement activities, plant modifications and design work.
  • Supervising 3rd party contractors.
  • Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices.
  • Assisting in plant developments and projects.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records on the site CMMS.
  • Assisting in outage planning, scheduling and coordination to ensure the availability of plant spares.
Professional qualifications:
  • Ideally qualified in a recognised Electrical / C&I apprenticeship in a heavy process industry.
  • A relevant technical qualification such as an NVQ / ONC / HNC in Electrical, Control or Instrumentation engineering or a similar discipline.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous.
Personal skills:
  • At least 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience with motors, switchgear, instrumentation (flow, level, pressure, temperature etc.) and control systems (SCADA, DCS and PLC).
  • Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in a heavy engineering environment such as power generation, petrochemical, steel works, CHP plant, paper mill etc. Royal Navy Marine Engineers will also be considered.
  • Experience with High-Voltage equipment such as transformers / switchgear will be advantageous.
