Astute's Power Team is partnering with a leading Energy company to recruit an Assistant Shift Team Leader for its CCGT power station in Larne, Northern Ireland. The Assistant Shift Team Leader role comes with a start salary of up to £65,000 + £8,000 shift allowance + medical + bonus. Responsibilities and duties of the Assistant Shift Team Leader role
- Support the Shift Team Leader in coordinating and managing all production and operational activities to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable plant performance.
- Act as Deputy Shift Team Leader, taking full operational control during absences, including acting as Incident Controller when required.
- Ensure safe operation of plant and HV apparatus (up to 275kV) in accordance with the Safety Document System and statutory requirements.
- Oversee plant start-up, shutdown, synchronisation, and output control in line with grid and dispatch instructions.
- Monitor, analyse, and optimise plant performance data to improve efficiency and operational reliability.
- Identify operational issues and implement corrective actions, ensuring accurate logging and communication of all changes.
- Lead adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards, embedding a strong HSE-first culture across the shift team.
- Manage isolation schemes for routine, emergency, and maintenance work in coordination with engineering teams.
- Support planning, outage coordination, and cross-departmental communication including trading calls and operational meetings.
- Lead, motivate, and develop shift team members, promoting effective teamwork, training, and continuous improvement.
Professional qualifications
- Relevant qualification in an engineering discipline (e.g. HNC/HND or equivalent), or extensive demonstrable relevant operational experience.
- NEBOSH or IOSH health and safety qualification (desirable).
- Extensive experience in power plant operations and/or maintenance within a generation or heavy industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of operational procedures, safety systems, and legal/regulatory obligations in power generation.
- Experience operating or supervising within a Safety Document System and HV environment (up to 275kV desirable/essential capability).

- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage teams in high-pressure operational environments.
- Highly safety-focused mindset with a proactive approach to HSE and operational risk management.
- Flexible, adaptable, and willing to work shift patterns and respond to operational demands, including emergencies and out-of-hours requirements.
