Astute’s Power Team is partnered with a major Energy and Waste Management Company to recruit an Assistant Plant Operator for their modern Energy from Waste Power Station in Belvedere, Kent.
The site currently processes up to 850,000 tonnes of waste per year, producing enough power for nearly 200,000 homes. With a new site being constructed capable of processing up to 650,000 tonnes of waste per year, this is a great opportunity to join the largest Energy from Waste plants in the Country.
As an Assistant Plant Operator you’ll be responsible for the safe & efficient operation of the plant, working on high pressure boilers, steam turbine generator & associated auxiliary plant.
The Assistant Plant Operator role comes with a salary of £43,640 – £48,489 + 12.5% Bonus + Overtime + Private medical + Benefits.

Responsibilities and Duties
Reporting to the Shift Team Leader you will be responsible for:
- Monitor and conduct plant checks on the machinery on-site to ensure optimum performance is always maintained. This includes checking pumps, valves, etc.
- Carry out and ensure all work is conducted in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines and Safe System of Work.
- Follow company procedures in reporting accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Assist in reaching the daily production targets as defined by site management.
- Have a proactive approach to the improvements of operational and safety efficiencies within site.
- Assist with loading and unloading operations.
- Operation of mobile plant and machinery.
This role will be working on a 24/7 shift pattern with 12 hour shifts.
Professional Qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
- Ideally hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline such as mechanical, electrical, C&I, etc.
- A Health and Safety qualification would be advantageous.
- Any mobile plant tickets will be highly advantageous.
Personal Skills and Prior Experience
The Assistant Plant Operator role would suit someone who has:
- Prior experience working in a heavy process engineering environment such as Power (EfW, Biomass, Coal, CCGT, etc), Pharmaceutical, Refinery, Steel Production, etc.
- Knowledge of pumps, valves, steam process, etc will be highly advantageous.
