Are you an experienced Bookkeeper or all-round finance professional who enjoys taking ownership, improving processes and bringing structure to a busy finance function? We are recruiting for a hands-on Bookkeeper / Credit Control Lead to join a growing privately owned company based in Nottingham. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong experience across credit control, accounts receivable and accounts payable who is confident working independently and has a proven ability to introduce and improve financial processes.
Although the role will involve a broad range of bookkeeping and transactional finance responsibilities, there will be a strong initial focus on reviewing and strengthening the company’s credit control procedures. You will be trusted to assess current ways of working, identify opportunities for improvement and implement effective processes that support cash flow, reduce aged debt and create a more efficient finance function.
This is not a role for someone who wants to simply follow existing processes. We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded finance professional who is comfortable taking ownership, managing a high volume of work and making practical improvements.
The Role:
- Taking ownership of the credit control function and managing the collection of outstanding debt
- Reviewing current credit control procedures and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and cash collection
- Designing, implementing and embedding new credit control processes and procedures

- Managing and reducing aged debt while maintaining positive customer relationships
- Investigating and resolving invoice queries and payment disputes
- Producing and reviewing aged debtor reports
- Maintaining accurate customer accounts and accounts receivable records
- Raising and processing sales invoices
- Supporting the accounts payable function, including processing and coding supplier invoices
- Reconciling customer and supplier accounts
- Completing bank and ledger reconciliations
- Supporting wider bookkeeping and transactional finance activities
- Managing a high volume of financial transactions accurately and efficiently
- Producing reports and analysing financial data using Excel
- Working independently while collaborating with colleagues across the wider business
- Supporting the continued development and improvement of finance processes
About You:
- Previous experience working as a Bookkeeper, Senior Bookkeeper, Accounts Assistant, Finance Officer, Credit Controller or all-round finance professional
- Strong, hands-on experience in credit control and accounts receivable
- Previous exposure to accounts payable and purchase ledger
- Proven experience of reviewing, improving or implementing new finance processes and procedures
- The confidence to take ownership and work independently
- Experience managing a busy and high-volume workload
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to financial administration
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to confidently chase overdue payments while maintaining professional customer relationships
- Strong Excel skills, including the ability to manipulate and analyse financial data
- A proactive approach, with the confidence to identify issues and implement practical solutions
What’s on Offer:
- Permanent, full-time opportunity
- A key role with genuine ownership and autonomy
- The opportunity to shape and improve the credit control function
- A varied position covering credit control, accounts receivable, accounts payable and wider bookkeeping
